. Safety. New England Patriots. Johnathan Abram. 32. player. 47

The Patriots are likely to consider adding some youth and depth to their secondary. Johnathan Abram would be a nice pickup at this point.

Viewed as one of the best safeties in this class, Abram is a true leader and a physical playmaker at the safety position. The Patriots need a future at that position, as Devin McCourty and Patrick Chung are starting to get older and consider retirement. Abram could find a role as a downhill playmaker early in his career before earning a job as the starter.

I also strongly considered Rock Ya-Sin from Temple, who is similar to Abram but plays corner. Ultimately, the two should be the top targets for the Patriots with some of their early-round picks.

Other Options

DL Jeffery Simmons, Mississippi State. The Patriots have taken a chance on a potential top player with injury concerns before (Dominique Easley). Simmons would be a top 15 pick in this class if healthy, so the Patriots could scoop him up if he falls to this juncture.

CB Rock Ya-Sin, Temple. The Patriots love leaders and physical players. Ya-Sin qualifies and could be an option with the last pick in the first round.

OT Greg Little, Ole Miss. The Patriots reportedly like Little and they could use some competition for last year’s first-round pick, Isaiah Wynn, who missed all of last year with an ACL tear.
