2019 NFL Mock Draft 8.0: Redskins land top quarterback, Raiders make surprise pick
Boom. Metcalf falls to 25. While many have seen Metcalf as a potential option for the Redskins’ 15th pick, his stock has cooled significantly since a stellar combine performance. The reasons for this are simple.
First of all, Metcalf had some injury issues at Ole Miss that caused him to miss time. So, that had an impact on his. Second, Metcalf’s tape hasn’t been consistently good, either. He has the raw abilities and upside of a potential No. 1 receiver at the NFL level, but he’ll need time to develop. His route running needs work and he doesn’t have great change of direction skills, so it may take him a bit before he’s able to separate with anything more than straight-line speed.
Still, despite his flaws, Metcalf is a talented prospect. And the Eagles may realize this. They can take Metcalf in hopes of turning him into a top receiver and pairing him with Alshon Jeffery, DeSean Jackson, and Nelson Agholor (about who there are trade rumors). Metcalf is a good value here, but don’t be surprised if he goes later than most expect.
Other Eagles Draft Options
DL Jeffery Simmons, Mississippi State. Howie Roseman could see a top-10 player still on the board here who has fallen solely due to an ACL tear. If he’s willing to be patient, he could try and grab Simmons here.
DL Jerry Tillery, Notre Dame. Tillery represents a healthy option on the defensive line, though he comes with some off the field concerns.
