2019 NFL Mock Draft 8.0: Redskins land top quarterback, Raiders make surprise pick
While the Giants don’t seem likely to take a quarterback with the sixth pick, all bets are off for the 17th selection. They could go in a number of different directions, and they may even trade up for a passer. But if they stay put at 17 and Daniel Jones is on the board, it’s hard to imagine them passing on him.
Jones has gotten rave reviews from some draft analysts and NFL talent evaluators. They like his frame, his arm talent, his accuracy, and his mobility. In many ways, Jones is reminiscent of Carson Wentz, and though Jones’ numbers weren’t great at Duke, his tape was better. It’s important to remember that hew as surrounded by a low-level supporting cast that dropped passes and caused him to be under pressure constantly. If he had better options, he might have looked better overall.
Jones still has to improve some things for the next level. His downfield accuracy is one of those, and he has the arm talent needed to do it. Additionally, Jones tried to do too much at times with his legs, so he’ll need to avoid doing that for the Giants.

With the Giants looking for Eli Manning’s eventual successor, Jones is a good option. He comes from a pro-style offense and should be able to take over whenever Manning falters. That could be this year, and Jones will have a chance to be better than most expect at the NFL level.
Other Giants Draft Options
QB Dwayne Haskins, Ohio State. Here’s another passer the Giants could have interest in, though they may have to trade up to get him.
LB Devin Bush, Michigan. The Giants could use some talent at linebacker. Bush would fit the bill if he lasts until the 17th pick.
CB Byron Murphy, Washington. A top-20 sleeper, Murphy could garner consideration with the Giants’ second first-round pick though they may be content to wait for a second-round option at the position.
