Pick No. 76 – Alabama LB Mack Wilson

Mack Wilson slides out of his second round projection and into the third, where the Redskins pick him up without a second thought. Washington looks to plan on starting Shaun Dion Hamilton and Reuben Foster at inside linebacker. The addition of Wilson would give the position group diversity and another starting-caliber player to fight for a starting position.

Doug Williams mentioned how coverage was something they were really looking at from the linebackers this year, and Wilson is superb in that area. Add his Alabama pedigree and it’s a no-brainer.

Washington has had problems with injuries over the last few years at ILB, and all current players at the position have dealt with their own injury problems, especially the starters, Foster and Hamilton. Wilson could fill in at either role with very little drop off in skill set. Mason Foster would be a capable backup for either role but is often exposed in coverage, something Wilson would excel in.

Washington would have an inside linebacker corps of Reuben Foster, Hamilton, WIlson, Mason Foster, and Joshua Harvey-Clemons. That is a talented group with a wide range of skill sets. Something they haven’t had in a while.
