5 Redskins players whose roles could be altered by the NFL Draft

No. 1 – Redskins QB Case Keenum
If you need proof that Case Keenum likely won’t be the Redskins starting quarterback for long, if he starts at all, you don’t need to look very far. The team acquired Keenum for a swap of sixth-round picks. They haven’t promoted him as a starter on social media in any way. And his recent resume perhaps best describes what he truly is: A stopgap.
Keenum gives the Redskins some security, and some flexibility, but if they want to win in the near future, their best bet is picking a quarterback in the 2019 NFL Draft. And their best bet at acquiring a starting quarterback in the draft comes in Round 1, even though some mid-round quarterbacks, such as Brett Rypien and Will Grier, could start in the right situation as well.
Set to start with the No. 15 pick, the Redskins might have to trade up to get their favorite signal caller, but even if they stay at No. 15, they could luck into a top three quarterback falling to them, if the cards fall the right way. Some rumors have mentioned that Haskins might slip, and Drew Lock could as well.
No matter how the Redskins acquire a quarterback, they appear to be looking to do so. But depending on who they get, Keenum could still open the year as the starter. Some quarterbacks, such as Lock, could benefit from learning behind Keenum for a time, before being installed as the starter. But if a quarterback is selected, it undoubtedly spells the end of the Keenum era before it truly began. And it would mark Keenum as a mere accessory to the next quarterback.
