Redskins 7-Round Mock: Will pick, should pick, and dark horse for every pick
Round 3, Pick 12
Will Pick and Should Pick: WR Hakeem Butler, Iowa State
If Butler falls this far, the Redskins would probably be ecstatic. Butler would fill a huge role for the team on the outside, and he could eventually develop into a top receiver at the NFL level.
I’m not quite as high on Butler as some others, and I have him ranked as the seventh receiver on my receiver big board. Here’s what I said about Butler’s draft stock in that piece.
Washington Commanders
"Butler has the raw skills needed to become a great receiver at the NFL level. He just may need a bit more time to develop. He will probably go in the second round of the draft, though he could go early in Round 3 if things don’t break well for him. The Redskins will consider him with their second-round selection if he’s on the board, and if he develops, he has the tools needed to develop into the best receiver in this draft class."
Butler still needs to develop, but he’s well worth the selection at this point. He could help fill the X role in the Washington offense, and his 6-6 frame should afford him a chance to be both physical and athletic.
Dark Horse: TE Kahale Warring, San Diego State
Warring’s stock has been rising for quite some time now, and he may end up going in the third round. The Redskins have shown an interest in the athletic but raw San Diego State product, and he could be a nice developmental candidate. If they’re worried he might be off the board by their second third-round pick, they could take him here.
Of course, the team could also elect to take a tight end later in the draft, and that’s what relegates him to dark horse status.
