It’s possible that the Redskins could wait on an edge rusher. They did spend a second-round pick on Ryan Anderson back in 2017, and they could be content to give him a chance to earn the starting role. While he hasn’t shown much as an edge rusher yet, he is a solid force off the edge and should hold his own against the run.

If the Anderson experiment is the path that the ‘Skins ultimately take, they could target a sleeper in the fifth round. At this point, Maxx Crosby would be a steal. Crosby was productive at Eastern Michigan and could ultimately go in the third round. This would seemingly be his floor.

In the past two seasons for Eastern Michigan, Crosby has posted 18.5 sacks. He’s a good athlete and posted strong agility numbers at the combine with a 6.89 time in the 3-cone drill. He should fit well as a long, hard-working, and quick edge player in a 3-4 defense. He doesn’t have quite enough weight to play on the inside.

Crosby and Anderson would be a good pairing, as Crosby could emerge as more of a pass rushing specialist with Anderson playing against the run. It would still be more ideal for the team to land one of the early-round players on the edge, but Crosby would be a great consolation prize, especially on Day 3.
