Redskins 7-Round Mock Draft: Team goes offense heavy, grabs QB early
If the Redskins invest in a first-round quarterback, they’re going to upgrade the weaponry around him. That could start in the second round, especially if a guy like Deebo Samuel is on the board.
Samuel is one of the safer wide receiver prospects in this deep draft and came in at No. 3 on my wide receiver big board. The South Carolina product is a very good route runner but also possesses burning speed. He has inside/outside versatility and could end up being a high-end No. 2 receiver at the NFL level.
Last season, Samuel put together his best season at South Carolina, totaling 62 catches for 882 yards and 11 touchdowns. He was a red-zone threat, despite his 5-11 frame, and used his quick feet, route running skills, and speed to gain separation. That will make him a big weapon in the NFL, as he can take the top off the defense while also still making plays in the red zone.

Additionally, Samuel is very good with the ball in his hands, so he will be able to make plays near the line of scrimmage and turn dump-offs and screen passes into bigger plays.
For the Redskins, he could emerge as a 1B option and be both a volume player and speed threat. His versatility would allow the team to use him all over the place, so they could create him into a matchup-based nightmare against certain teams.
Another option for this pick could be Michigan edge rusher Chase Winovich. He was off the board in this simulation, but Winovich is a high-motor player with solid sack production during his career with the Wolverines. If the ‘Skins are looking for a guy to rotate with Ryan Anderson, Winovich could fill that role, especially if the team passes on the edge in the first round.
