This isn’t going to be a popular pick with the Redskins fan base. However, it seems probable that if the ‘Skins take a first-round quarterback, it will be Daniel Jones.

While Washington has still been tied heavily to the Josh Rosen sweepstakes, nothing has fully materialized from that. With the team needing a backup, they could opt to select one in the first round. Of the four likely first-round quarterbacks in this draft, Jones is the only one that will probably be on the board.

Kyler Murray, Dwayne Haskins, and Drew Lock could all have suitors before the 15th pick. Jones doesn’t seem to have quite as much of a market, though the Giants seem to have interest in him. Because of this, Jones may end up on the board with the 15th pick. And if the ‘Skins are dead-set on taking a quarterback early, they may take him there.

I’m actually higher on Jones than most. I like his accuracy, mobility, and overall arm talent. Sure, his arm strength isn’t great, but he still knows how to make downfield throws. And the mental aspect of Jones’ game is good as well. He is prone to trying to do too much with his legs at times, but he generally makes the right throws.

Also, it’s worth noting that Jones’ supporting cast at Duke was poor, and he was constantly under pressure and enduring dropped passes. Despite the pressure, Jones was poised in the pocket, so that’s a positive for him at the next level.

Jones isn’t a great value here, none of the first-round quarterbacks really are great values this year, but he has Carson Wentz type upside, so he could pan out. The question is, would taking Jones be better than targeting a guy like Will Grier or Brett Rypien on Day 2? It all depends on what the team thinks of those prospects. But, for now, Jones is one of the strongest possibilities for Round 1.
