NFL Mock Draft 7.0: Giants, Patriots trade up; Redskins land defensive help
The Patriots and the Seahawks ended up swapping picks that both of them used on Iowa tight ends. Funny how that worked out.
In all seriousness, the Seahawks could use a true No. 1 tight end. Will Dissly (affectionately known as “Uncle Will”) clashed as a rookie, but he unfortunately tore his patellar tendon. That injury is notoriously difficult for players to come back from, so relying on him would be a huge risk.
Besides, Noah Fant is the best player on the board anyway. Fant is a highly athletic tight end prospect who some view as the top tight end in this draft. He played well with Hockenson at Iowa and should become a mismatch nightmare at the next level because of his athletic ability.
On tape, Fant showed great athleticism that allowed him to separate from opposing defenses and make plays. He is pretty fast for his position, too, and should get a chance to emerge as a top target in Seattle.
With Tyler Lockett, Fant, and (hopefully) Doug Baldwin, the Seahawks would have their offense mostly figured out. And with their extra pick, they can continue to add talent to their defense and maybe add some reinforcements on the offensive line.
