NFL Mock Draft 7.0: Giants, Patriots trade up; Redskins land defensive help
Jon Gruden loves to run the ball. Currently, the top running back on the Raiders’ roster is Isaiah Crowell. Expect that to change in the near future.
The Raiders are armed with three first-round picks, and four of the first 35 selections. In all likelihood, they will target a running back with one of the picks and at 24, Josh Jacobs would make a lot of sense.
Jacobs is the best running back in this draft class. He only touched the ball sparingly during his three years at Alabama, 299 times to be exact, but in his final year, he showed excellent ability as both a runner and a pass catcher.
Jacobs runs with a tough, physical style and is hungry to gain yards on almost every play. He broke some long runs for the Crimson Tide thanks to his solid top-end speed and strength, and had 14 touchdowns on just 140 total touches during his final season. He really was a playmaker who ran angry, and Gruden will love having him as the team’s top runner.
By taking Jacobs here, the Raiders will guarantee that no other team will take him. The Philadelphia Eagles could have considered him, though they did trade for Jordan Howard, so the Raiders will take him here just to be safe before targeting a different player with the 27th pick.
