NFL Mock Draft 7.0: Giants, Patriots trade up; Redskins land defensive help
If the Texans don’t draft offensive line help early, Deshaun Watson is going to be in trouble. Last year, Watson was sacked a ridiculous 62 times, which tied for fifth-most in NFL history.
And the name at the top of that list? David Carr who was sacked 76 times during his rookie season in Houston. We all saw what happened with Carr after getting hit so many times, and the Texans simply can’t afford to repeat their mistake.
So far this offseason, the Texans haven’t shown that they have learned from their mistakes. All they have done to date is sign Matt Kalil, who the Panthers cut after an awful season in Carolina. That’s not going to help the squad much.
With that said, the team will probably take the best offensive lineman on the board at this point. Andre Dillard would qualify. Some view the Washington State prospect as the best left tackle in this class, and he would have a chance to immediately compete for a starting job in Houston. He could play left tackle with Kalil kicking inside to guard, where he may be a bit better.
At the very least, Dillard has the athleticism and mobility needed to succeed as a tackle at the NFL level. The Texans will find some place to play him, as they simply lack talent on their offensive line at this point in time. They have some young options, but Dillard could help to lock down one position and settle things a bit.
