11. player. 56. . Quarterback. Ohio State. Dwayne Haskins

Don’t discount the possibility of the Bengals taking a quarterback. Sure, the new coaching staff has expressed confidence in Andy Dalton, but that doesn’t mean that they are actually going to stick with him.

Dalton has just two years left on his contract, and there would be no dead-cap hit if the team elected to cut him. While it seems likely that they will keep him on the roster for a season longer, it’s no guarantee that they will keep him after this year. And it’s even less of a guarantee that they will fully trust him as a starter.

If a guy like Dwayne Haskins is on the board with the 11th pick, the Bengals could definitely consider taking him. Some consider Haskins to be the most talented passer in this draft, but there are rumors that he is slipping. That said, quarterbacks tend to have inflated value in the draft, so he should still go in the first half of the first round.

Haskins has a solid skill set, as he has good arm talent and arm strength and demonstrated great accuracy at Ohio State. However, his deep accuracy needs some work and Haskins isn’t very mobile. Additionally, Haskins was helped by a very strong supporting cast at Ohio State. Playing with a weaker offensive line and receiver corps could give Haskins some growing pains, and it may take the one-year starter longer to develop at the NFL level than some are anticipating.

Zac Taylor will be looking for their quarterback of the future at some point. Haskins could end up being that guy. If he isn’t, they could target a tight end or a linebacker with this pick while trying to get Will Grier on the second day of the draft.
