The Redskins 2019 season still isn’t close. But with the latest announcement from the NFL, it at least gives us something to look forward to.

Past the NFL Draft, the NFL offseason is a long, slow-moving time for the Washington Redskins. Player workouts and minicamps constitute a large portion of the summer, but for onlookers, all of the activities in June, July, and August are merely leading to something bigger: The regular season.

The 2019 regular season doesn’t begin until September, but just as it does every year, the start of preseason will signify the coming return of football, and that will be the time for teams to truly gear up for the 2019 season.

Now, with the NFL’s official release of the preseason schedules for all 32 teams, we know a bit of what to expect, and what matchups to be on the lookout for. The Redskins posted their four preseason opponents on their Twitter page, seen in the post below.

The Redskins will take a nearly-complete tour of the AFC North in the preseason of 2019. In Week 1, they’ll face off against the rejuvenated Cleveland Browns in Cleveland. Then, in Week 2, the Redskins will face the Cincinnati Bengals at home. In Week 3, they’ll travel down south to take on the Atlanta Falcons, and in Week 4, they’ll close out their preseason the same way they did in 2018: Against the Baltimore Ravens. Only the Week 4 game has a date that’s set in stone, set to be played on August 29.

This early into the offseason, it’s hard to find storylines to follow in the distant preseason games. Seeing Landon Collins in burgundy and gold will be at the top of the agenda, but the matchups don’t feature too many close connections. Odell Beckham will be a very familiar foe in Cleveland, Robert Griffin III will once again face his former team, and Jay Gruden will clash with the new and unfamiliar Bengals regime in Week 2. But once the offseason plays out, and once rookies find their roles, we’ll truly get a feel for what to expect, and what to watch out for, in the four games in August.
