Of the three major Ole Miss receivers coming into this draft, A.J. Brown is probably the most pro-ready. The versatile receiver played mostly in the slot for the Rebels, but he should have a chance to be an inside/outside receiver at the next level. And his production throughout college has certainly been impressive.

In each of the past two seasons, Brown has posted over 1,252 receiving yards. During that span, he also recorded 17 total touchdowns. He has very good route running capabilities, solid speed and athleticism, and a good 6-1 frame. He looks the part of an NFL receiver and has been underrated by many because he isn’t quite as explosive as some of the other prospects in this draft.

On tape, Brown shows a penchant for using his route running to find open space. He has quick feet and is generally able to gain a step or two on defenders when working out of the slot. He can settle into pockets of space, so that’s a positive.

Additionally, Brown has excellent hands and catches most everything that comes his way. He also has solid blocking ability and understands how to open up running lanes. That’s an ability that can’t be underestimated at the next level.

The Redskins have expressed an interest in Brown, as they have reportedly met with him as part of their pre-draft visits. If they feel that he is an answer at the receiver position, they could target him in the draft. However, given that Brown is likely to be a late-first to early-second round pick, the Redskins will either have to trade up from their Round 2 spot to get him or move down in Round 1. Taking him at 15 would probably be too be of a reach.

Brown is one of the more polished receivers in this class, so there’s a chance that he could come off the board earlier than most expect. He’s simply an all-around solid player that should be a sure-fire success in the NFL.
