Jacob: The Colts are in the process of buildign a very good team, but one thing that they need desperately is a No. 2 receiver for Andrew Luck. While T.Y. Hilton has been a really good No. 1 option, the team hasn’t had another consistent receiver across from him for quite some time.

While the Colts elected to take a gamble on Devin Funchess, he can’t be trusted as anything more than a one-year project. At this juncture, there are some solid receivers on the board, but A.J. Brown makes the most sense.

Brown was the most productive of the draftable receivers that played at Ole Miss. He notched 160 catches for 2,572 yards and 17 touchdowns over the course of the past two years. He has good athletic ability, is a solid route runner, and has pretty good size. In short, he makes sense as more of a possession-based complement to Hilton.

Brown could reach his full potential with Luck throwing to him in Indianapolis. More importantly, he has inside/outside versatility and could play the slot for the team. So, if Funchess pans out across from Hilton, Brown could play the slot and give the squad three solid receivers and a great tight end in Eric Ebron.

The Colts could go in a lot of directions with this pick, and some of their options include safety Johnathan Abram, defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence, or whatever edge player they like the most here. But Brown seems like a good fit for the team’s offense.
