D.K. Metcalf. 12. player. 49. . Wide Receiver. Ole Miss

Jacob: The Packers spent heavily on the defensive side of free agency. They added two edge rushers in Preston and Za’Darius Smith and a safety in Adrian Amos to plug some of their biggest needs on that side. Thus, it only makes sense that they will focus more on offense early in the 2019 NFL Draft.

With Aaron Rodgers growing older, the Packers need to improve their offense to ensure that he’ll have a fighting chance to continue to play on a high level. With this selection, they will probably target a top receiving weapon. I was hoping for T.J. Hockenson to fall to this pick, but D.K. Metcalf is a more than intriguing consolation prize.

Metcalf is a true physical freak. He has a well-built 6-3, 228-pound frame and looks like a bodybuilder. At the combine, Metcalf crushed the 40-yard dash, posting a mark of 4.33 and tested well in all other respective — save for the 3-cone drill. That does point to the fact that agility is his weakness, but it shouldn’t completely prevent him from becoming an effective receiver at the NFL level.

On tape, Metcalf shows great straight-line ability and should have a chance to make contested catches at the NFL level. He does need to work a bit on his route running, as he didn’t have a diverse route tree at Ole Miss, but he should have a chance to improve on that at the next level.

Metcalf would be a really nice complement to Davante Adams in Green Bay. Adams is a great route runner with the ability to separate while Metcalf is a strong, big-bodied athlete who could add a new element to the Packers’ offense. Rodgers would be more than happy to work with a receiver that has Metcalf’s upside and could quickly turn him into a threat at the next level.
