Ian: Everyone doubted Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen when he was selected in the top ten of the 2018 NFL Draft. Allen was labeled as a surefire bust by some, due to his inaccuracy, his relative lack of polish, and his entry into a Bills’ offense that was seriously lacking, in terms of talent.

That last part was true in 2018; the Bills offense, from a personnel standpoint, left something to be desired, and the offensive line was atrocious. But one bright spot, among a surprising many, was Josh Allen, who wowed week in and week out with his rocket arm, his athleticism, and his sheer competitiveness. His fire was something his teammates rallied behind, and in 2019, it’s something to keep building on.

The Bills embarked on the path to give Allen the pieces he needs in free agency of this year, adding offensive linemen such as Ty Nsekhe, Spencer Long, and Mitch Morse, and in the receiving core, they added John Brown and Cole Beasley, to pair with young starters such as Robert Foster and Zay Jones.

Now, after the release of veteran tight end Charles Clay, all the Bills need to do is add another weapon in his stead. And in T.J. Hockenson, they get a versatile playmaker with blue-chip potential.

Hockenson is arguably one of the most polished prospects in the 2019 NFL Draft. He’s a relentless blocker, on both passing and running snaps, and he has the athleticism and hand-eye coordination to be a dynamic threat in the passing game, and a very explosive safety blanket for Josh Allen. Brandon Beane’s reclamation project didn’t garner much faith at first in Buffalo, but now, things are truly looking up.
