The Washington Redskins have yet another quarterback reportedly visiting them. This one is Auburn’s Jarrett Stidham.

Nobody can accuse the Redskins of failing to do work on the 2019 NFL Draft’s quarterback class. In the lead-up to the draft, they are meeting with and working out virtually every signal caller that could possibly be drafted. And doing this due diligence is smart.

The Redskins need to add some sort of youth and upside to the quarterback room. As of right now, the team has three quarterbacks on the roster, Alex Smith, Colt McCoy, and Case Keenum. All are over 30, and Smith is unlikely to play in 2019 due to an injury. McCoy has been injury prone as well, and the team simply needs to add someone with long-term upside to develop, regardless of where they select him in the draft.

Lately, the ‘Skins have been meeting with a lot of the top quarterback prospects in the draft. And according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Jarrett Stidham is visiting with the team on Thursday.

Stidham is a potential mid-round option that the Redskins could target. However, Stidham comes with some major risks.

While Stidham has arm talent and has shown flashes of starting ability, he has many shortcomings as well. He struggles with his pocket awareness and has issues knowing when to get rid of the ball. He fumbled four times last year at Auburn and in the Senior Bowl, he dropped the ball on a couple of occasions as well.

Additionally, Stidham’s accuracy is inconsistent in downfield passing scenarios. While he has the arm strength and talent needed to be proficient in all areas of the field, he doesn’t always hit his receivers or make the right read. He will need to develop a lot at the next level, especially considering that his completion percentage and yards per attempt both dropped in his final year at Auburn.

Stidham certainly has upside, as he is fairly mobile and has a good arm. He just needs a lot of work. If the ‘Skins target him in the middle rounds (likely in the third with the 96th pick), they may be able to turn him into a decent starter. However, he would be a pretty big risk, especially considering that he doesn’t often look comfortable in the pocket.

It will be interesting to see what Washington does at quarterback, but Stidham will be in play. They also may go with a number of the other quarterbacks that they have worked out.
