The Washington Redskins need help at the wide receiver position. They are reportedly going to visit with Ole Miss wide receiver A.J. Brown on Thursday.

The Redskins are going to be visiting with a potential first-round receiver prospect from Ole Miss on Thursday. No, not D.K. Metcalf — though they have displayed interest in him in the past. They are going to be visiting with A.J. Brown on Thursday.

Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Brown is visiting the New York Giants on Wednesday and then will move on to visit the Redskins on Thursday. Given the team’s lack of talent at the receiver position, it makes a lot of sense for the ‘Skins to have interest in Brown.

Brown was a highly productive receiver in college at Ole Miss. Brown had at least 75 catches and 1,252 receiving yards in his final two seasons with the Rebels. He also caught 17 touchdowns during that span. He has a well-built 6-1 frame and should be a versatile receiving threat at the next level.

On tape, Brown demonstrates very good route running ability and good athleticism. He has solid hands and should be able to succeed as an outside receiver in the NFL or as a slot man. Brown had a nice showing at the combine, testing well and looking solid during the on-field drills as well. He is a fringe first-round prospect that seems more likely than not to go on Day 1 of the draft.

The Redskins’ interest in Brown would be sensible. They need help all over their receiving corps, and Brown could give them just that. He has the upside of a No. 1 receiver and should be a very good No. 2 option at the very least. He also is an ideal complement to speed-based threat Paul Richardson, so that could make him an intriguing target.

It’s possible that the Redskins could be thinking about using the 15th pick on Brown. However, it seems unlikely that he would be the best value on the board given the number of quality edge players that could slip to the 15th pick. However, if the team is dead-set on taking a receiving weapon in the form of a receiver or tight end, Brown could get some consideration if T.J. Hockenson and Metcalf are off the board.

The Redskins’ interest in Brown is noted, so make sure to keep an eye on him in the lead-up to the draft. If he starts to rise or if the team trades down, he could end up being a target. Conversely, the team could also just be doing due diligence on a major position of need.
