The Washington Redskins are reportedly visiting with veteran free agent receiver Kenny Britt.

It’s no secret that the Redskins need help at the receiver position. The team lost Jamison Crowder this offseason while Paul Richardson is coming off an injury-plagued campaign and Josh Doctson has largely been a disappointment since being a first-round pick. They are likely to add some talent at the position, and many expect that they will address the receiver position early in the 2019 NFL Draft.

However, the team has also been focused on adding some veteran depth at the position. Earlier this offseason, they added Brian Quick back to the mix at receiver. And now, they are visiting with another veteran and former Los Angeles Ram.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Kenny Britt is going to visit the Redskins. Britt was out of the league last season after spending the preseason with the New England Patriots.

It’s worth bringing in Britt to see if he has anything left in the tank. After all, he did have a 1,000-yard season with Case Keenum at the helm of the Rams in 2016. Still, expecting Britt to pan out would be a risky move.

Britt will turn 31 in September and has been inconsistent during his time in the NFL. Last time he was on the field in 2017, he averaged only 12.8 yards per catch, the second-lowest average of his career. He may still have something left in the tank and could be better after a year off. But he shouldn’t be viewed as anything more than a potential No. 4 receiver.

Signing Britt to a cheap deal wouldn’t necessarily be a bad move. He would give the Redskins some veteran depth at one of their weakest positions and could possibly emerge as a solid rotational player. However, Britt’s potential presence shouldn’t stop the ‘Skins from targeting a couple of receivers in the draft, as they need to add both youth and talent to their receiver group.

Britt’s name isn’t one that is going to elicit excitement, and he certainly wouldn’t qualify as the “big splash” that some were hoping for at receiver. But if he inks a cheap, short-term deal, this would be a fine depth signing that wouldn’t break the bank for the squad.

UPDATE: According to ESPN’s John Keim, Britt won’t be joining the Redskins.
