Redskins: Why re-signing Junior Galette makes sense
Final Thoughts
At the end of the day, Galette wants to be in Washington. He’s proven to be a hard worker that wants to bleed for the burgundy and gold. He even sent a tweet upon the hiring of Rob Ryan, saying he personally contacted Redskins officials about playing for the team next year.
How great would it be to have no fall off in the Redskins front seven while saving enough money to splurge on another impact player?
Every good team has a few high-end players on bargain contracts. It’s the way you win in the salary cap era. You get ahead by taking well-calculated, high-upside risks. Galette is one of the safest high-performance upside moves Washington could make.
I can see why the Redskins ultimately retracted their offer last year. But with a year removed from football, Galette could have a newly gained understanding that he is meant to be a hard-working powder keg on this mostly young defense and not one of its main leaders.
It just makes sense. Signing Galette to a small two-year contract fills the edge rusher void this year at least, and it allows Washington to focus on the other positions of need in an offseason full of holes.
