Report: Redskins expected to meet with West Virginia quarterback Will Grier
The Washington Redskins are doing a lot of work on this year’s quarterback class. Reportedly, they are going to meet with West Virginia quarterback Will Grier.
Throughout the offseason, the Redskins have done a lot of work on the quarterbacks in the 2019 NFL Draft class. At the Senior Bowl and combine, they were focusing heavily at the position and it appears that they are going to draft one. The question is just about when that will happen.
While there is a strong possibility that the Redskins could take a first-round quarterback, the team may be focusing on some Day 2 options. And one that stands out is West Virginia quarterback Will Grier.
Though Grier has fallen behind some of the other quarterbacks in this class, he has generated some buzz as of late. He seems likely to be a Day 2 pick, and the Redskins are going to meet with him, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

If Grier really did “put on a show” as Schefter suggested, Grier could garner consideration in the second round for Washington. And if they elect to pass on a quarterback in the first round, he could be a strong possibility.
Grier has a gunslinger’s mentality and had a solid career at West Virginia. In his final season, Grier completed 67 percent of his passes for 3,864 yards, 37 touchdowns, and just eight interceptions. Part of that excellent production stemmed from the passer-friendly nature of the Big 12, but Grier still demonstrated a very strong arm and made some excellent throws during his time with the team.
Grier has an intriguing skill set and if he can improve his accuracy, he could be a nice starter at the NFL level. His accuracy issues stem from his footwork and delivery, so if that can be coached up, he could progress rapidly at the NFL level as his consistency improves.
The Redskins’ interest in Grier is notable, as it signals that they haven’t zeroed in on a first-round quarterback. Grier would be a nice developmental passer to pair with Colt McCoy and Case Keenum, and he could benefit from sitting behind them for a year. We’ll see if Grier’s stock continues to rise, but for now, it seems like the ‘Skins could definitely consider him.
