The Washington Redskins have a handful of glaring needs still on their roster. Here’s what might happen if they try to add a rookie quarterback early in the 2019 NFL Draft.

It seems highly probable that the Redskins are going to draft a quarterback. Currently, all three of the quarterbacks in their room (if you want to count the injured Alex Smith among them) are over 30. The team is desperate for some youth at the position and, for that reason, is likely to take a quarterback in the 2019 NFL Draft.

The question is, when will they do that? While many are hoping that the team will eschew an early-round option in favor of waiting for a quarterback from the superior-looking 2020 NFL Draft class, the team still seems likely to take one. However, if they take one outside of Round 1, it wouldn’t close the door on the team adding a quarterback in the first round next offseason.

Of course, the team will do what it wants and what it thinks is best. In this case, with the front office and coaching staff on the hot seat a little bit, the team may opt to take a quarterback early in hopes that he sparks the franchise or buys them some extra time to build.

It’s also notable that quarterback is one of the biggest weaknesses on the roster, and normally, many would be on board to address that issue. However, in what’s perceived to be a “weaker class,” many want the team to wait on a passer.

All that said, we wanted to take a look at what the Redskins’ draft class might look like if they take a quarterback early. Here’s what we came up with in our latest seven-round mock draft.
