Maurice Harris and Rob Kelley are going to be free agents. The Washington Redskins elected not to tender either of them ahead of restricted free agency.

This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, but the Washington Redskins elected not to tender any of their restricted free agents. The team didn’t really have a lot of talent among their restricted free agents, so they opted to let them walk for the time being.

However, there are some familiar names among this crowd, and two of them are Maurice Harris and Rob Kelley. Both have played roles on the ‘Skins offense in recent seasons, but neither will be sticking around as tendered players.

According to Kareem Copeland of The Washington Post, the Redskins opted not to tender either player. That will make them unrestricted free agents.

Again, this isn’t a surprise. Neither player has done much to help out the team’s offensive issues, so it was time to move on from them.

Last season, Harris had his most productive year in a Redskins uniform. He caught 28 passes for 304 yards. He was a fine depth option, but as the season went along, Michael Floyd did a lot to take playing time away from him. The ‘Skins must have decided it was time to move on from Harris, 26, and give another young player a chance.

The 2019 NFL Draft is loaded with potential role players at the receiver position, so the Redskins could opt to shop here for some new talent.

Elsewhere, Kelley notably had a coming out party as an undrafted free agent in 2016. He took over as the starter for Matt Jones midway through the season, and he logged 704 yards and six scores on 168 carries. However, he never really had any burst and his hard, physical style caused him to become injury prone. He played in just nine games the next two seasons and totaled 202 rushing yards and three scores.

With Adrian Peterson re-signing and Derrius Guice coming back from injury, Kelley simply had no place on the roster. At most, the 26-year-old may get a look as a depth player and goal-line hammer, but it seems more likely that he will linger on the free agent market.

Washington really won’t miss either of these players. Their upside isn’t that high and while they provided solid depth at times, they weren’t consistent or consistently healthy. That’s what led the team to part with them this offseason.
