Washington Redskins: 15 best free agent acquisitions of all-time
By Ian Cummings
He only played for the Redskins for five seasons, but over that short span, Redskins free agent acquisition Ken Harvey provided an impact that few players at his position could match.
Harvey originally entered the NFL as the No. 12 overall pick of the then-Phoenix Cardinals in the 1988 NFL Draft. After six seasons of inconsistency and underwhelming play, Harvey went to Washington, where his play immediately took to new heights.
Harvey hit the ground running in the nation’s capital, accumulating 98 total tackles, 13.5 sacks and four forced fumbles in his first season in burgundy and gold. He’d make the Pro Bowl that season, and in the three subsequent seasons as well.
Overall, Harvey’s numbers with the Redskins total as follows: 391 tackles, 41.5 sacks, 13 forced fumbles and an interception. Recognized as a Pro Bowler four times in five years with the Redskins, Harvey was a consistent force that the Redskins didn’t have the luxury of enjoying often in the late 1990s.
