The Washington Redskins will be meeting with various prospects throughout the week at the 2019 NFL Combine. Reportedly, they have met with offensive linemen Jawaan Taylor and Cody Ford.

Last season, the lack of depth on the Redskins’ offensive line derailed their season. After losing Brandon Scherff and Shawn Lauvao to injuries, the team cycled through a variety of low-level starters at guard. By the end of the year, they were on their seventh and eighth options at the position, and their tackle depth wasn’t strong either. Thus, it’s no surprise that the team is trying to change that in the 2019 offseason.

According to Ben Standig of NBC Sports Washington, the Redskins have already met with a couple of potential first-round offensive linemen. They have spoken to Jawaan Taylor and Cody Ford. The team could opt to select either if they are on the board with the No. 15 pick.

Taylor is arguably the best offensive tackle in this draft class. While he may not work out much at the combine because of a hamstring injury, he has ideal size and length for the tackle position. He measured at 6-5, 315 pounds and has 35 1/8 inch arms and logged 24 reps in the bench press. It was an all-around solid showing for him.

On tape, Taylor demonstrates quick feet and uses his length and strength to help him win on the outside. He has the most upside of any left tackle in this class and realistically, he should be a top-10 pick. Still, if he falls into the Redskins’ lap, they could take him and develop him as Trent Williams‘ successor. Or, they could try to play him at guard. Either way, he could fill a need.

Meanwhile, Ford would be an even better fit for the Redskins. While Ford played tackle in college, his home in the pros will likely be at guard. He would be a plug-and-play starter for the squad at left guard and if he’s on the board with the 15th pick, it would be hard to pass on him. He came in a shade under 6-4 and 329 pounds at the combine, so he should find success immediately as a pro.

Meeting with these two prospects is a sensible move for the Redskins. It also makes it apparent that they realize they have a weakness on the offensive line and will address it in some way, shape, or form. While they may not necessarily end up with either of these players, it’s a good sign that they are demonstrating an interest in these early-round prospects.
