Redskins: 3 quarterbacks to watch at the 2019 NFL Combine
By Ian Cummings
The Washington Redskins will undoubtedly have their eyes on the quarterbacks of the 2019 NFL Draft at the combine this week.
With starting quarterback Alex Smith‘s return in question, the Washington Redskins may act as if Smith will never come back to the field. With Smith out of the equation for the foreseeable future, and with the team in need of an affordable quarterback to start, the NFL Draft quickly becomes an attractive option to find an upgrade.
But what, in the 2019 NFL Draft, constitutes an upgrade for the Redskins? Dwayne Haskins is pro-ready, but he’s not very mobile, and he could be gone before the Redskins pick. The same goes for Kyler Murray, who could wow at the combine with his speed and throwing ability.
Drew Lock has enticing upside as a franchise quarterback, but his flaws are considerably worrisome. And Daniel Jones, while a bit more polished than Lock, has questions surrounding his upside and his ability to elevate a team.
The 2019 NFL Draft’s quarterback class might end up being a fairly solid class, two years into the future, but there are so many questions surrounding the 2019 quarterback class, it would make sense for the Redskins to wait until next year to draft their new franchise quarterback. But the Redskins don’t have that kind of patience, and with some promising young talent on the roster, they might not like the idea of wasting time.
Thus, the quarterbacks at the NFL Combine become a very compelling topic for the Redskins. Here are three, give or take one more, that deserve careful attention in Indianapolis.
