The Washington Redskins will be tied to a lot of quarterbacks ahead of the 2019 NFL Draft. Daniel Jones is one of them, and NFL Network’s Charley Casserly has them selecting him in his first mock of the year.

The ad nauseam talk about the Redskins adding a quarterback will persist until it happens. There’s no two ways about it. Alex Smith is highly unlikely to play in 2019 and the team can’t roll with Colt McCoy as the only quarterback option on their squad. While McCoy could start, the team is going to invest draft capital to find a potential successor for Smith and someone who can challenge McCoy for playing time in the interim.

Many mock drafts are starting to come out from prominent analysts. Mel Kiper Jr.’s Mock 2.0 recently dropped, and he had Washington taking Missouri quarterback Drew Lock. In Charley Casserly’s first mock, he too has the ‘Skins addressing the quarterback position.

Casserly, an analyst for the NFL Network and the former GM of the Redskins, has the team selecting Duke’s Daniel Jones with their first-round pick. Here’s what Casserly had to say about Jones.

"Excellent field vision, anticipation and accuracy. The future is now in Washington!"

Those three qualities do make Jones sound like a solid option, and he probably is the safest of the quarterback selections in this draft. He has the intelligence and arm talent needed to be a game manager at minimum in the NFL and could be a good starter. So, the pick could be a solid one.

Of course, the more notable thing here is that Casserly has ties to the ‘Skins and he did correctly predict the team’s No. 13 overall pick, Daron Payne, in his final mock draft last year. It’s possible that he could have solid sourcing on the team, so it’s important to pay attention to what he says. It’s also notable that Casserly isn’t the only one who has identified the Redskins’ interest in Jones, as WalterFootball.com’s Charlie Campbell reported on that in advance of the Senior Bowl.

It’s still very early in the draft process, but another notable source tying Jones to the Redskins is an interesting development. The mocks will certainly change in the lead-up to the 2019 NFL Draft, but for now, Jones appears to be firmly on the Redskins’ radar.
