Redskins: Riggo’s Rag Podcast – Super Bowls of past, present, and future
By Ian Cummings
The Super Bowl came and went, and memories of success long gone for the Redskins with it.
The Washington Redskins aren’t one of the teams still waiting to gain entrance onto the biggest stage in the National Football League. They’ve made it there four times, and won the Super Bowl three times. While teams like the Lions and Bengals yearn for their pass to historical relevance, the Redskins have already attained it.
But perhaps that only makes the Redskins current state of affairs worse. The dichotomy between the Redskins of old and the Redskins of 2019 is stark, to say the least. In one era, the franchise won three Super Bowls over the course of a decade. In the other, they’ve rendered themselves a mediocre shell of former glory.
But for Washington, there is a blueprint available to follow, if they wish to change their ways and take the first step on the path to success. The New England Patriots recently won their sixth Super Bowl championship of the twenty-first century, and while there are many intangible qualities that are unique to Bill Belichick and Tom Brady, their strategy was on full display versus the Rams, and every year, the Patriot way is regarded with ultimate respect.
What made the Redskins so successful when they were one of the NFL’s blue-blood teams, and how can they learn from what might be the NFL’s greatest dynasty in history, the New England Patriots? This time around, we were joined by Riggo’s Rag contributor Kyle Hundley, who provided us with his insight on Super Bowls of past, present, and future. To simply stay the course isn’t enough for the Redskins to transcend the circumstances and get over the hump. A commitment to the right strategies and tendencies is most important, and perhaps, by taking a look at those who do it best, they can learn and adapt, in an NFL where adapting is the most important thing.
