The Washington Redskins need to find some depth at receiver. Here are some options they could look at on the 2019 free agent market.
Last season, the wide receiver position was arguably the weakest unit on the Redskins team. Well, that is, before the injuries hit. Post-injuries, all the units were weak. But from start to finish, no group was thinner top to bottom than the receiving corps.
Josh Doctson was supposed to make the leap last season. Paul Richardson was supposed to add a deep threat to the offense. Neither of those things came to fruition, as Doctson was just okay while Richardson struggled with injuries and inconsistency when on the field.
Moving forward, the Redskins have a lot of questions at the position. Doctson is heading into his fourth season while Jamison Crowder is hitting the free agent market. Plus, Richardson is returning from season-ending should surgery. With those major question marks looming, the ‘Skins need to add some depth at receiver to ensure that they have a quality unit in 2019.
The 2019 NFL Draft is deep at receiver, so the team will likely look to add someone there. But, if they lose Crowder or if they decide to part with Doctson, they could look to add an option on the free agent market. There are some nice buy-low candidates available, and here’s a look at three that could fit well with the Redskins.
Note: Crowder isn’t included on this list, as these are merely the external options the Redskins could consider at the position. It’s well within the realm of possibility that Crowder re-signs, and that’s why he’s one of the team’s most important pending free agents of the 2019 offseason.
