Redskins: One pending free agent to watch on each championship team
By Ian Cummings
The Redskins needed interior help in 2018, and now, with the passing of the new year, nothing is different. Shawn Lauvao is not a starter anymore, Brandon Scherff is coming back from a torn pectoral, and the depth behind them is shoddy.
It makes sense for the Redskins to sweep the free agent market for valuable guards to acquire, and on the Los Angeles Rams, an intriguing option exists in veteran interior lineman Rodger Saffold.
Saffold, set to turn 31 years old this offseason, would be an instant upgrade for the Redskins. He only allowed three sacks in 2018, and his mobility has helped the Rams’ offense maintain its play calling versatility. The Redskins have always favored linemen who can move in the run game and the screen game, and Saffold fits that description, even if it’s just for a year or two.
