The Washington Redskins have lost another coach to a lateral move. Linebackers coach Kirk Olivadotti will be joining the Packers to coach their linebackers.

The embarrassing offseason continues for the Redskins. After losing special teams coordinator Ben Kotwica to the Falcons in a lateral move, the team has now lost their linebackers coach Kirk Olivadotti. And this was also a lateral move.

Per Jim Owczarski of PackersNews.com, new Packers coach Matt LaFleur has inked Olivadotti to coach their linebackers. Losing Olivadotti may not seem like a major deal for the Redskins, but it is indicative of the current status of the team.

This offseason, the Redskins have picked and chosen which assistants to let interview elsewhere. Olivadotti and Kotwica were two of them, and they are now gone. The fact that the two were seeking similar employment with other organizations is bad news for the ‘Skins, especially amid the slew of negative attention that is coming out of their circus-like front office.

The loss of Olivadotti solidifies that something surely is rotten in the state of the Redskins front office. Olivadotti has been with the team for 16 years, only leaving for a brief stint with the Georgia linebackers from 2011-2013. He has been a staple of multiple defensive staffs for the ‘Skins, so seeing him leave certainly was a major negative.

The fact that Olivadotti left an organization that he has been with for the better part of the last two decades should be viewed as a red flag. He left for an equivalent position, and it seems that he was happy to jump off board what could be a sinking ship in Washington. And this sinking ship has been fostered by the front office.

Coaching candidates rightfully don’t see much job security with the current state of the coaching staff. Jay Gruden may be a lame-duck and Greg Manusky — who the team tried to replace this offseason to no avail — certainly is one. In addition to the lack of security here, the circus-like atmosphere of Dan Snyder and Bruce Allen’s crew is certainly not a selling point either, and that’s likely why the team hasn’t been able to lure many quality candidates to Washington to help fix the team.

Olivadotti’s departure essentially confirms what is already known. The Redskins are not a destination for coaching talent and until the team settles on some sort of organizational structure, it will continue to be that way.
