Five months after tearing his ACL in preseason, Redskins running back Derrius Guice looks completely new.

The Washington Redskins came into the 2018 offseason needing a solution at running back. And they came out with Derrius Guice, an electric first-round talent from LSU, who they managed to snag in the second round, due to inaccurate concerns surrounding his character.

It wasn’t long into Guice’s tenure as a Redskins player before he became a fan favorite, displaying infectious positivity on the practice field, while also showing flashes of the contact balance and quick cuts that made him one of the best overall prospects in the entire 2018 NFL Draft.

Guice entered preseason with monumental expectations, but those expectations shattered when he tore his ACL against the Patriots. The outlook was grim immediately after the injury, but now, five months later, Guice is back on the field. And he looks good.

Let’s. Go.

Sitting out the entire 2018 season, Guice was able to get a head start on his recovery, and the results speak for themselves. Guice now has his movement back, and with no football action until May, with veteran minicamp, Guice can continue to heal, and ensure that he’s in the best possible physical shape when he comes back to the fold in summer.

Guice’s time off the field will also help him potentially confer with Adrian Peterson and Chris Thompson, two players who could be excellent mentors for Guice at the running back position. Peterson was signed to replace Guice after his ACL injury, and subsequently embarked on the eighth one thousand-yard season of his Hall of Fame career.

Peterson has not yet been re-signed, but the Redskins have plenty of reason to do so. Once Guice returns back to the practice field with his team, it would be good to have Peterson by his side. That way, the Redskins can get the most out of Guice. And Guice can get the most out of his new opportunity. He’s well on his way to making a full recovery. The league is on notice.
