Chase Roullier

The only Redskins offensive lineman to play one hundred percent of the possible snaps on offense, Chase Roullier was the closest thing to consistency the Redskins could get from their blocking unit in 2018.

The early returns have been impressive from Roullier, to say the least. The Wyoming product was drafted in the sixth round of the 2017 NFL Draft to provide depth, and talks of him succeeding Spencer Long were hesitant, with Long entering 2017 as the starter.

But by that season’s end, Roullier was the starter. And after one full year as the Redskins official starter at center, Roullier is entrenched in the job. He does it well. Allowing just one half sack and and drawing two penalties in sixteen games, Roullier is quickly growing into a key piece of the Redskins offensive line, and national recognition could soon be on the way.

After another season of growth and reliability, it’s not brash to say Roullier is Washington’s only offensive lineman without a question mark, heading into 2019. Trent Williams continues to battle injury proneness in his heightening age. Shawn Lauvao likely won’t be back, leaving a void at left guard. Brandon Scherff is coming back from a torn pectoral, an injury that might never fully heal. And Morgan Moses is coming off a perceived regression at right tackle.

In a situation with so much uncertainty at one of the most important position groups in football, it’s good to know that the Redskins can at least count on their center. Chase Roullier had a banner year amidst chaos in 2018, and he should only continue to improve.
