2019 NFL Mock Draft 1.0: 3 QBs go in the top 10, Redskins land defensive stud
The Chargers need a bit more strength on their defensive line. Corey Liuget has missed time this year with an injury while Brandon Mebane (a 34-year-old free agent this offseason) has also been in and out of the lineup. Luckily for the Chargers, Dre’Mont Jones is available here and should be a great option with this selection.
Jones really came into his own this year at Ohio State, despite the fact that Nick Bosa wasn’t with the team for most of the year. Jones was one of the team’s best pass rushers, and he managed to log 8.5 sacks during the season.
Jones will be able to help Melvin Ingram and Joey Bosa pressure opposing quarterbacks. And I’m sure he won’t be disappointed to team up with a Bosa brother again. It’s also notable that the Chargers may lose backup defensive tackle Damion Square to free agency in addition to Mebane, so that makes this an even more important pickup as the team will need interior defensive line depth.
In the modern NFL, where interior pressure is becoming the next best thing on defense, Jones will have a chance to outperform his draft slot and give the Chargers and excellent value in back to back years.
