25. player. 54. . Running Back. Alabama. Damien Harris

Two Alabama running backs in the top 25? Why not?

The Eagles have a need at the running back position. Jay Ajayi is a free agent with knee problems who is coming off an ACL tear. The team has a solid stable of rotational backs including Corey Clement, Josh Adams, Darren Sproles, and Wendell Smallwood, but they don’t really have a true backfield leader. And adding one would definitely help Carson Wentz to succeed.

Harris is an experienced runner who has played a lead role in the Alabama running back rotation for each of the past three years. He has logged at least 876 yards in those three years despite never logging more than 150 rushing attempts. Even more impressive is the fact that he had two 1,000-yard seasons as a sophomore and junior.

Harris runs with good physicality, has solid burst, and is just a smart overall runner. WalterFootball.com’s Charlie Campbell had an interesting comparison for Harris in his 2019 NFL Draft prospect rankings. Here’s what Campbell said.

"In speaking with scouts across the league, they really like Harris and think he has turned himself into a well-rounded player through hard work and dedication. Some sources have compared Harris to the good version Doug Martin for the NFL. They say that Harris has elite vision, good contact balance, and strength. From watching the Crimson Tide in practice as well, these same sources say that Harris is a good receiver even though Alabama doesn’t feature him in that role."

Having “the good version of Doug Martin” would definitely be an upgrade for the Eagles. Harris seems to be one of the best players available, and he’s one of the only players here that fills a need for the Eagles without being a big reach.
