Montez Sweat. 26. player. 46. . Edge Rusher. Mississippi State

Montez Sweat has been a consistent pass rusher for Mississippi State in the past two seasons. He has a total of 22.5 sacks in that time coupled with 30 tackles for loss. He consistently gets into opponent’s backfield, and his 6-foot-6 frame has plenty of length and athleticism to make him a contributor in the NFL.

The Colts can afford to take the best player available with this pick. They may like to add another receiving talent to their roster, but they’ll have a chance to do that in the second round. Sweat’s upside is too good to pass on at this point, and it’s possible that Sweat could be a top-20 pick on draft day.

By adding Sweat, the Colts would continue to build their young, fast, athletic defense. They already added a couple of edge guys last year in Kemoko Turay and Tyquan Lewis, but Sweat could work in conjunction with Jabaal Sheard on the other side of the line. Plus, with Margus Hunt hitting free agency, adding depth to the defensive line certainly wouldn’t hurt the Colts.

Sweat is the best player available, and Matt Eberflus will easily figure out a way to incorporate him into the defensive rotation. The Colts will be happy to land him at this juncture.
