The Washington Redskins always seem to have high hopes for their tight end group. That was the case in 2018, but the unit somewhat disappointed.

Any time you have a great tight end on your roster, there are high hopes for the position. There aren’t a lot of ultra-talented tight ends in the NFL, but when healthy, Jordan Reed is one of them. The long-time Redskin has had issues staying healthy over the course of his career, but 2018 was different. He was on the field for the second-most games of his career, so that had to be a positive, right? And the team’s unit had to have played well, right?

Not so fast.

Though the team did have their tight ends stay (mostly) healthy throughout the season, the position group hasn’t played as well as some might have hoped. Granted, they dealt with four different starting quarterbacks during the season, but still, the unit had some trouble producing even when Alex Smith was on the field. For that reason, the unit will be slightly penalized as a whole because of their inability to produce at a high level.

Here’s a look at the in-depth grades for the Redskins tight ends after their performance during the 2018 season. It’s important to note that these grades are based on a combination of performance, results, and the ability to live up to preseason expectations. Let’s dive in.
