5. Redskins must have a big game out of Adrian Peterson

One of the best ways to help a quarterback who is still learning a new system is to run the ball. Last week, Jay Gruden stuck with Peterson by giving him 19 carries against what is an outstanding Jags’ defensive front.

While Peterson finished with just 51 yards, the fact that Gruden stuck with him throughout the game, even when he wasn’t getting a lot of yards, was one of the reasons that they ended up winning. By staying committed, he wore the defense down and was able to get the yards he needed to at the end of the game because of it.

Gruden is going to need to rely on Peterson again this week to make some runs and help take the pressure off of Josh Johnson. While Peterson was only getting a couple of yards per carry last week, he was one move away from turning those 2- or 3-yard runs into 10or 12-yard runs. He must find a way to turn those short runs into some big gains this week.

Tennessee is stout against the run and they do a lot of stunts along the front, so the offensive line must be ready to handle them. If they can find a way to open up some lanes for Peterson and he can make some plays plus find a way to get into the endzone, the Redskins stand a good a chance to get back above .500.
