The Washington Redskins may no longer have to deal with Bruce Allen. He is rumored to be a favorite of the Oakland Raiders for their GM position.

Wouldn’t it be nice if Bruce Allen wasn’t involved in the Redskins front office anymore? Allen has been with the team since being named the general manager in 2009. Currently, he is the team president, and he has drawn the ire of many Redskins fans for his poor decision making for the better part of the last decade. In fact, many have been calling for him to leave for many years, and this crowd has been especially vocal since the departure of Scot McCloughan.

Now, it seems possible that the group of fans may get their wish. But it may not be in the method that many expected.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Allen is one of the front-runners to replace the former Oakland Raiders GM, Reggie McKenzie. McKenzie was fired on Monday, and though he was given the opportunity to finish the season, he elected not to. And now, that opening is vacant for the Raiders.

Allen has ties to Jon Gruden from their time together with the Oakland Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The duo worked together from Gruden’s first season in Oakland, 1998, to 2008, when the Bucs fired the duo after a 9-7 season. At this point, it seems that Gruden wants Allen to jump aboard in Oakland to see if they can rekindle some of the magic that they had together during their decade-long relationship spanning Oakland and Tampa.

Of course, the interesting subplots here involved the Redskins. The first is that Jay Gruden, Jon’s brother, is on the hot seat in Washington. The second is that Allen is as well. The Redskins could elect to part with both of them after the season, and if that does happen, it seems likely that Allen would definitely go to Oakland. And that may even happen if he isn’t fired, as he will have a chance to make more football decisions than he does in the ‘Skins front office as it’s currently constructed.

Meanwhile, with the younger Gruden, if the Redskins did part with him, it’s possible that he could land in Oakland as an assistant head coach. That is, of course, if another team didn’t offer him a head coaching job. So, that’s another fun twist that could happen in this story, so it’s something to watch.

At the end of the day, these are merely rumors. But at the same time, this would be an intriguing way to completely remake the Redskins front office. They could take their talents to Oakland and try for a Gruden renaissance. And the ‘Skins fans would get a fresh start. That would seemingly make all parties happy, so it will be interesting to see if that does happen. For the next month, this is definitely one of the biggest stories for Redskins fans to watch.
