Adrian Peterson had the longest TD run in Redskins history against the Eagles. It was a 90-yard play after Colt McCoy exited the game.

Redskins fans were panicking. Colt McCoy had just suffered an injury that knocked him out of the game. In his place, Mark Sanchez had come in. Yes, that Mark Sanchez. The butt-fumble one. The guy who had been on the Redskins for all of two weeks. As if hope wasn’t already dwindling, it was pretty close to cratering with Sanchez entering the game.

Instead, the ‘Skins and their fans saw history made on Sanchez’s first play of the game. However, it wasn’t thanks to their new quarterback. It was thanks to Adrian Peterson.

Peterson took a carry from the 10-yard line, and that was all she wrote. Peterson went off to the races, and he took it to the house. The 90-yard TD run was the longest of Peterson’s career, and it was also the longest TD run in Redskins history as well.

Here’s a look at the run, per the NFL’s official Twitter account.

Not only was the run well done by Peterson, but his line blocked well for him too. Chase Roullier was able to get to the second level quickly and got a solid block on Kamu Grugier-Hill. That was really the key to getting Peterson into space in the first place.

Once in space, Peterson was able to use his burst to outrun the defense. Once he hit full speed, he had the angle on all the defenders and had just enough juice to reach the end zone. And at the time, it really helped to spark the Redskins and particularly, their fans (who had been deflated by the injury to McCoy).

Peterson should continue to move the ball going forward, and expect him to keep getting carries throughout the season. While he has been up-and-down in recent weeks, he still has shown flashes of being vintage AP. So, the future Hall of Famer should have a chance to keep breaking some big plays.
