The Washington Redskins are engaged in a tough battle with the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day. At halftime, the game is going fairly well.

The Redskins are playing pretty well right now. Their defense looks good and their offense has been functional. Here are our takeaways so far.

Jordan Reed has easily been the top pass-catching weapon for the Redskins. He has been the favorite receiver for Colt McCoy, and he leads the team with three catches and 49 yards. If the team can continue to keep Reed involved in the offense, they should have a chance to move the ball at will. This is what many Redskins fans have been waiting for all year, so it’s exciting to see someone finally emerging as a receiving weapon.

Elsewhere on offense, McCoy has looked good at QB. He’s had a couple of questionable throws, including a bad interception that saw him stare down Trey Quinn and put a ball into coverage, but everything else he has done fairly well. There’s room for improvement, but at least he is moving the ball. He should improve as the game continues on and as he continues to shake off the rust.

Notably, McCoy’s biggest highlight was a long TD pass to Vernon Davis. He hung in the pocket and delivered a perfect ball to Davis who was breaking into open space. McCoy hit Davis perfectly in stride and showed exactly what he’s capable of as a starter.

On the defensive side of the ball, the defensive line continued to play very well. Tim Settle had a couple of nice tackles for loss. Daron Payne and Jonathan Allen got pressure on Dak Prescott, and that helped the team limit the Cowboys early on. They currently have four sacks and should notch more in the second half.

However, there was a key play that allowed the Cowboys to extend a drive. Prescott escaped a sack a converted a third-down to Michael Gallup. Later, the team would go on to score a field goal, and that’s the difference in the game right now. They just have to be more secure with their tackling. Still, they’re playing relatively well and are generating player.

The Redskins will have a chance to win the game if he keeps playing at this level. Here’s hoping they can keep up the good work in the second half.
