The Washington Redskins injury report is in for their short week. It’s similar to what it has been in the past few weeks, but there are a couple of key notes regarding it.

On short weeks, NFL teams tend to see an increase in players listed with injury designations on their roster. That actually wasn’t necessarily the case for the Redskins in Week 12. That wasn’t by design though. It was more about the fact that they already had a lot of players injured that they needed to keep an eye on.

Coming into the Thanksgiving game, the Redskins are only declaring one player as out. That would be running back Chris Thompson. The team’s scat-back/third-down playmaker has been dealing with a rib injury in recent weeks, and they seem hell-bent on keeping him out until he’s fully healthy. Given his smaller stature and that he has been prone to getting banged-up in recent years, this is a sensible move.

Elsewhere on offense though, receiver Jamison Crowder and left tackle Trent Williams are both questionable with their respective injuries. Getting either (or both) players back would be huge for the team in the critical matchup with the Cowboys.

Crowder has been out since Week 5 with a troublesome ankle injury. If he were to return, he would come into the starting lineup right away and would provide Colt McCoy with a familiar weapon. Considering that McCoy is making his first start in years on a short week, that would be great for him to have a second security blanket over the middle of the field.

Meanwhile, the presence of Trent Williams would be massive for the Redskins offensive line. Currently, the team’s line is beat up, and they are starting two backups on the interior and a backup at left tackle. If Williams can play, he would push Ty Nsekhe back to a bench role and give the team better depth. Though Nsekhe is one of the better backup tackles in the league, Williams is just elite when healthy. So, having him could spark the offense.

The only other truly notable questionable players are Tony Bergstrom and Quinton Dunbar. Bergstrom is the current starter at right guard and he was limited in practice all week. That said, it seems likely that was more due to maintenance than anything else, so he should play.

As for Dunbar, he is dealing with a nerve injury in his leg/shin that has hampered him for weeks. It’s impossible to know whether or not he will be active, as it is too dependent on how he fares in pregame warmups.

Overall, the fact that only one player was immediately ruled out on a short week is a great sign. Even if these players don’t return now, perhaps they will be able to return after the mini-bye following Thanksgiving. Either way, we’ll keep you in the loop on all of the latest injury updates for the Redskins.
