Redskins vs. Cowboys: 5 players to watch on Thanksgiving
By Ian Cummings
No. 1 – QB Colt McCoy
It’s Colt McCoy‘s show now. It’s what he’s been waiting for. Four years in the making.
McCoy has been the Redskins proverbial backup since 2014, but for that entire time, he’s been endeared by a fan base that always thought of him as more. Perhaps it’s the natural infatuation with a potentially unrealized offensive weapon, and the human hope for an underdog.
But perhaps Colt McCoy actually gives Washington a fighting chance.
Alex Smith’s style of play is just as respectable as the next quarterback, but McCoy’s style has the potential to bring about more production from the Redskins offense. That sounds good, but for those saying it couldn’t be worse, the Redskins’ turnover differential is one of the best in the nation. McCoy can ruin that stat fairly quickly, if he’s not careful.
The gunslinger from Texas has a shot to solidify his mark on the city of Washington D.C., starting with a crucial division showdown this Thursday. If McCoy can, against all odds, lead the Redskins to the playoffs, and bring the division crown back to D.C., then he will join the ranks of the immortal.
If not? Well, then he’s just another sorry Redskins quarterback.
