Redskins Ingredients for Improvement: Make offensive opportunities count
By Ian Cummings
Winning can be dangerous.
There’s something appealing about a record that has twice as many wins as losses. It feigns excellence, and to a degree, it cultivates the illusion of dominance.
There is nothing excellent or dominant about the 2018 Washington Redskins. Not yet. There have been unsustainable flashes of dominance. For a stretch, the Redskins run defense did not allow a rusher to attain over 61 yards. For a stretch, Washington’s offensive line housed two All-Pro caliber players.
But as the season has churned along, the Redskins’ mortal flaws have been made all too clear. There are still issues on both sides of the ball that need fixing. The team is on track to make the playoffs, as long as they keep winning ugly. But in the playoffs, the teams stop beating themselves.
We know this Washington team has potential. And we know their best game is yet to come. If that game is ever to arrive, however, the Redskins must use their Ingredients for Improvement. This week’s game provided both a win, and a window to see where they lie.
