Redskins: An early look at the 2019 offseason and corresponding moves
Redskins Players to Release
Before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s remember that 53 players are needed for the regular season roster and you simply can’t release half the team. A total rebuild is not needed, but shedding a few players makes sense and there are nine Redskins who could be released.
Josh Norman was signed to a mega-contract two years ago and he performed admirably early in his tenure as a Redskin. However, 2018 has been a mixture of elite coverage skills and struggle. The inconsistencies continue to mount and jettisoning Norman, along with his large contract, is a logical move for this offseason.
No one doubts the talent that Jordan Reed possesses, but he is often listed on the injury reports. The Redskins can open up some cap room and draft his replacement in a few months.

Stacy McGee has the prototypical size of a defensive tackle, but he lacks the intangibles to play at an elevated level. It is time to move on.
This is a tough one, but Chris Thompson is on this list for one reason – his inability to stay healthy. His talent is elite, but it means little when he is sidelined for extended periods during a season. For that reason alone, it is time to release Thompson and give more opportunities to Kapri Bibbs or find his replacement in the middle rounds of the draft.
Samaje Perine is a talented running back and he deserves an honest chance at redemption. However, he is held in low regard by head coach Jay Gruden and it seems like there is no chance for Perine to recover. Perine should be released if he is not valued by the team.
Robert Davis had a rookie season to forget and is on injured reserve this season. There is nothing to see here and it is time to move on from Davis.
Robert Kelley has ended up on injured reserve the last two seasons. It is time to cut the cord.
Josh Holsey and Manasseh Garner have had no impact and should be released.
