The Redskins have filled their last remaining spot on the active roster.

Earlier in the week, the Washington Redskins released veteran defensive lineman Ziggy Hood. The move opened up a slot on the team’s 53-man roster, and shortly after Hood’s release, speculation ensued as to how his spot would be filled.

The Redskins themselves may not have known until recently. Just yesterday, they brought in three interior offensive linemen for workouts, per ESPN’s John Keim: Oday Aboushi, J.J. Dielman, and John Jerry. With Chase Roullier playing out of position and Tony Bergstrom starting at center, Washington’s offensive line has been inconsistent. Thus, it makes sense that they sought out help.

Ultimately, however, none of the candidates on the line impressed enough to warrant a signing. It didn’t help that at the same time, two key wide receivers, Paul Richardson and Jamison Crowder, were nursing injuries.

As of now, Richardson is scheduled to have an MRI on his knee, which has been bugging him, and Jamison Crowder needs a scooter to walk. As you might imagine, both players are questionable for Sunday. And so the Redskins were instead forced to add a wide receiver. They made an in-house promotion, elevating second-year receiver Jehu Chesson from the practice squad. The team’s official Twitter page reported the news.

Chesson, 24, played college football at the University of Michigan, where he logged 114 receptions for 1,639 yards and 12 touchdowns over four years. He was drafted in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. There, he played for a year, logging two receptions for 18 yards on four targets. He was waived during final roster cuts this year, and the Redskins scooped him up. He played one game for Washington, notching a single target, before being relegated back to the practice squad.

dark. Next. Redskins vs. Cowboys: The rivalry continues

The injuries sustained by Richardson and Crowder are not suspected to be long-term, but they will be sidelined for the time being. With Richardson and Crowder presumably out for this week’s matchup against the Cowboys, Chesson will fall in behind Josh Doctson, Brian Quick, Maurice Harris, and Michael Floyd at wide receiver. Call it an early scare as Halloween approaches.
