Redskins Reality Checks: Realistic predictions for Week 6 vs. the Panthers
By Tim Payne
5. Reality is, Jordan Reed is still healthy and it’s time for him to eat.
The Redskins have two undeniably elite players on their roster: Trent Williams and Jordan Reed. Reed, however, has played only 58 percent of offensive snaps so far this year, according to Pro Football Reference. Therefore, it shouldn’t be a surprise his production is down.
Gruden has said he’s easing Jordan in so as to hopefully have him around for more of the season. But we’re now at the quarter-pole. It’s time to let him loose and get as much production as you can out of him. No other elite player in this league is playing a smaller percentage of snaps while 100 percent healthy. There is also no player more unguardable than Jordan Reed.
It’s time for Jordan to have that dominant, breakout performance. Gruden knows it, Smith knows it, and the Panthers know it. Unlike anyone else on this roster, though, Jordan Reed deserves to be force-fed even if the other team is trying to take him away. Gruden needs to scheme up ways to get Reed the ball early and often. We should all be disappointed if the Redskins don’t feature Reed in a significant way this week.
Prediction: As I said, Gruden knows that Reed has to start being featured more, and I expect that to absolutely be the case on Sunday. Look for Jordan to have three targets in the first two drives of the game. I expect him to finish with seven catches on eight targets for 80 yards and a TD.
