2. Drew Brees totals 400-plus passing yards, 4 scores

This game figures to be a big one for Drew Brees. He has a chance to break the league’s all-time passing yardage record and he’s just four scores away from 500 career passing touchdowns. For that reason, it could be a historic night.

While the Redskins will certainly do everything they can to slow down Brees, the fact is that he’s playing at home, in prime-time in front of what should be a raucous crowd. Furthermore, New Orleans’ supporting cast is very strong, and the run game is particularly good, so the Redskins aren’t going to be able to focus solely on slowing Brees down. They need to spread the attention around to the whole offense.

Though the Saints will be without Ted Ginn in this game, they still have more than enough firepower to create mismatches with the ‘Skins secondary. Michael Thomas should give them fits, and whoever ends up in the slot may challenge Fabian Moreau, as Brees’ elite ball-placement skills will give him a chance to thread the needle over the middle of the field.

Just how unlikely would a 400-yard, four TD game be for Brees? Brees has done it five times during his career, so it’s not out of the question. Still, it would take a lot of things to go right for him, and game script would definitely be one of them. But, if the Washington offense is humming, this could become a high-scoring affair, so there’s no reason this stat line couldn’t happen.

Make no mistake, the Redskins are going to do everything they can to slow down Brees. D.J. Swearinger spoke of it himself ahead of this matchup. It just doesn’t seem like something that’s likely to happen. Expect Brees to put up monster numbers and prove that he is one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play at the NFL level.
